Textmate + No Tabs = WIN

Blogged on April 22, 2009 at 8:10 PM

To take tabs off:
defaults write com.macromates.textmate OakProjectWindowShowTabBarEnabled false
To get them back:
defaults delete com.macromates.textmate OakProjectWindowShowTabBarEnabled

Thank you, Andrew.
I was wondering exactly that since, IMO, using the project view (with ProjectPlus, obviously) view to browser files is WAY more productive (Espresso gets this right).
Hope it’s useful to anyone else, but this is mostly for future reference.

UPDATE: This hack just hides the tabs! You can still navigate between tabs with keyb shortcuts and stuff… Not exactly what I was looking for, but… :/ gah

@Brian
Easy: Why have two ways to navigate through documents?? As I browse and edit, I clutter my tab bar and once in a while I just close all docs to clear things up! Textmate (with Project+) already signals in the sidebar which files are not saved and all I have to do is go to them and save them…

In a project, browsing files via sidebar is SOOO much better than tabs… :) And you can always have Textmate save a document when it loses focus OR “Save all”. :)

My question to you is more like: why wouldn’t you want to do this? :)

Okay, I’ll try it — though the 40ish pixels of space consumed by the tabs isn’t too bad. I wish Project+ would denote which files have unsaved changes in the buffer.

It’s not the 40px of space… Is having those tabs up there, distracting, for no good reason.
My Project+ dims the files with unsaved changes.. Yours doesn’t?? :o
